Winter Solstice Hike @ Sylvan Solace Preserve, Mt. Pleasant

Join us as we celebrate one of mankind’s oldest holidays, the Winter Solstice, with a mid-day hike at Sylvan Solace Preserve.

Although the solstice marks the beginning of winter, it also marks the beginning of a new solar year for those of us in the northern hemisphere. At it’s highest point on the Winter Solstice, the sun will be at its most southerly point of the year, only 22.9 degrees above the southern horizon. Over the following six months, the noon-day sun will move further and further north until it reaches 69.7 degrees above the horizon on the Summer Solstice.
