Million Girl Moonshot is HERE!

The Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance joins the national Million Girls Moonshot movement of like-minded organizations and partners with the shared goal to change the trajectory of youth in STEM.

The Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance has been selected as a Moonshot Catalyst Awardee to engage more girls and underserved youth in deeper STEM learning. As an awardee, regional afterschool and summer programs and educators will gain access to key training, resources and professional development that will shift practices to create more access and more inclusive STEM learning opportunities for students historically underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

Our aim is to more fully engage several of our leading STEM partners to shift practices (using the Access STEM Framework Strategies and Engineering Mindset), better engage youth, and to mitigate access, equity, and inclusivity for girls in STEM. Key project partners have announced the dates of their events and registration is underway. 

 

Event Opportunities:

  • June 17-20: Join BAISD CTE Summer Camp at the Bay-Arenac ISD Career Center from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Students in grades 5-8 are invited to participate in CTE Summer Camp. The camps being offered are 
    • Culinary – emphasis on Baking, Public Safety/Law Enforcement, Club Med-Health programs, Beautiful You-focus on health, diet, skin & hair care, 
    • Trades – working with local unions, Bricklayer, Carpenter, Welder, Operator, Electrician, Laborer

  • June 19: Join Saginaw Valley State University for a HydroRockets: An Eggronaut Adventure event for a Engineering design Challenge to build hydro rockets with capsules that allow an egg to be launch multiple times.This event is for 6-12th grade girls and underserved students. The first session will start at 8am and second session will start at noon. Event registration: HERE
