Astronomy PD

Each day of the workshop will be centered on astronomical themes which will incorporate appropriate background content knowledge and related hands-on activities for classroom use. The four-day workshop will cover the following scientific themes:   Making predictions, observations, and formulating explanations through modeling  Solar System, including scale Sun-Earth system, including seasons Earth-Moon system, including Moon phases, eclipses, gravity and ocean tides Comets, craters, and dinosaur extinction A $100 stipend will be available each day. SCECHs may be available (pending approval).

Description: Consider applying to be a paid summer intern for the Dow Science and Sustainability Education Center (DSSEC). Middle and high school science teachers, high school students, and SVSU undergraduate students are welcome to apply for an opportunity to participate in scientific research during the summer with SVSU faculty. SVSU faculty will be directing projects in the areas of biochemistry, biology, geography, chemistry, and engineering; however, each project is closely aligned with the Saginaw Bay Environmental Science Institute (SBESI).  Learn how to implement Edison robots as a tool in your classroom. Similar to LEGO Mindstorms robots, Edison robots are compatible with LEGO bricks and fully programmable. The low cost (10 Edison robots cost about as much as 1 Mindstorms kit) and ease of use of Edison robots allow for accessibility with classroom groups. Math in the Mail Assembly Day

The assembly will take place at the Saginaw ISD Transitions Center, located at 3860 Fashion Square Blvd. in Saginaw.
