Fall STEM Experiences for Students, Families, & Teachers from The Center for Excellence in STEM Education

We are grateful for the ways in which we have learned and grown related to the type and format of our programming. In addition to providing virtual STEM programming to more than 2,000 students and families from March 2020 through May 2021, welcoming students back on campus this summer has been phenomenal. Over eight weeks we provided a total of 29 Summer STEM Camps that were held either On-Campus, On-Location, or On-Line. This fall, we are excited to introduce a few new opportunities to allow you to connect with us as well as continuing with some of our fan favorite programs.

New Opportunities

As the past several months have indicated, staying connected to others can be challenging for students, teachers, and families. Whether you consider yourself a formal or informal educator or someone who is curious about ideas and resources from a wide variety of regional and national educators and innovators, we hope you’ll check out our new podcast called Teach Wonder. Our show is available wherever you normally access your podcasts (Apple, Spotify, Pandora, Buzzsprout), simply search for “The Center for Excellence in STEM Education” to find us!

Fan Favorites

We are excited to once again host Open Make on campus for 3rd – 6th graders from 4:00pm – 5:30pm. This is a great opportunity for students to engage at their comfort level whether that means exploring a variety of the materials available or investing in something they find personally intriguing. We welcome students to attend for as long as they are able, and completely understand if parents need to drop them off a little after the scheduled start or pick them up a bit early. Join us Wednesday, September 22nd at NO COST and explore projects of your own or work with a staff member on some activities related to podcasting and design for 3D printing.

A fun way to connect the kids and adults in your crew is by getting curious and creative at a Family Event. Our next event will take place on Saturday, October 23rd in one hour time slots from 9AM – Noon. Check back soon and follow us on Facebook (@CmichCESE) and Instagram (@cmich_cese) to get the most up-to-date information about the topic and activity!

If you need a low-key way to keep your youngest maker busy, consider coming to the Mount Pleasant Discovery Museum on the first Friday of each month from 10 – 11:30AM for Little STEMmers. Some students come and engage for the entire time, while others dip in and out between moments spent interacting with exhibits on the museum floor — both approaches are equally appropriate and encouraged! This drop-in, hands-on STEM program is included in the cost of museum admission.

Connect Your Classroom

As students and teachers head back to school, we’d love to work with you to coordinate the best possible Field Trip experience whether that means connecting On-Campus, On-Location, or On-Line. To start that conversation, or to learn more about Invention Convention, complete this Field Trip Inquiry form and a Center staff member will be in touch!
